Referendum

Palm Beach County voters overwhelmingly approved the continuation of the operating millage, with approximately 74% of
people in favor; a slight increase from the 72% received four years ago. The overwhelming support of the 2022 Referendum
by Palm Beach County voters is a testament to the community’s commitment to our public school students and teachers.

The referendum, which is overseen by an independent oversight committee, is expected to generate about $270 million per
year for FY24 through FY27 (sunsetting 6/30/27) and includes funding for:

          • Art, Music, Physical Education, and Choice Programs
          • Teacher retention with additional pay
          • School security and mental health resources

        School Food Service Professional Growth

        Required Training
School Food Service (SFS) offered numerous opportunities for professional development (PD) for its 1,492 employees. In
addition to District-wide training, SFS staff must receive annual training mandated by the US Department of Agriculture.
This mandatory training is available virtually while allowing each employee to remain at their respective school site and
receive training at times that work best for their school. The SFS staff completed over 19,000 hours of PD during FY23.

Additional PD was available to SFS managers, including a session on strategic planning and goal setting, “Building the
Blocks of Inspiration,” hosted by the Operations, Finance, and Nutrition Services site-based teams.
