Manager Intern Program
SFS conducted two manager intern training programs in FY23. The fall class graduated 16 cafeteria managers and the
spring class graduated seven cafeteria managers. Of the 23 new cafeteria managers, 16 were internal candidates and seven
were external candidates.
The manager intern training program consists of a 16-week schedule where manager interns participate in weekly classroom
instruction provided by the various SFS team members. Participants are trained in menu planning, ordering, safety and
sanitation, meal claiming, and kitchen staffing. Part of the training includes working alongside a training manager at a
school site to learn about the day-to-day operations, allowing them to put their newly acquired skills to work. At the end of
the program, the manager interns are eligible to apply for open cafeteria manager positions.
All 23 cafeteria managers were hired by schools just before their graduation. SFS strives to provide advancement
opportunities for its employees, and the manager intern program is a prime example of that action.
