WINDOWS 7:
END OF AN ERA
On January 14, 2020, Microsoft will end its support for Windows 7. As a
result, the District will remove Windows 7 from District devices by the end
of the year. Recognizing the need to evolve software to the latest versions,
the Technical Operations Department will use upgrades and conversions to
Windows 10 and the CloudReady Chrome platform to transition out of the
Windows 7 era to the next OS generation.
School Techs have provided help during the summer months. They have
been able to replace more than 7,000 devices in just a couple of weeks.
There are still 40,000 devices running Windows 7; but with the help and
support of everyone involved, the transition will proceed smoothly. At
project’s end, students and teachers will be using the latest available
software. Also, because Microsoft will no longer produce security updates
after January 14, changing over to Windows 10 and Cloudready will ensure
that we continue to receive the latest security and stability updates.
