Alternative to Suspension for Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drugs

The Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (ATOD) program is an alternative-to-suspension program. This
program provides students with the option of completing a fully online 3.5-hour course if they have been
suspended for alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs. By completing the online course, students suspended for
alcohol and other drugs may receive a waiver of up to three days of the mandatory 10-day suspension, with
three days held in abeyance. Likewise, students suspended for tobacco may receive a waiver of up to three
days of the mandatory 5-day suspension, with three days held in abeyance.

In FY21, the students with a tobacco infraction completed the Tobacco Prevention Program’s student citation
course which focuses solely on tobacco and vaping products. Students with infractions for alcohol or drugs
completed the District’s ATOD course which contains information about alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and
        prescription drugs.

In FY21, there were 61 students completed the ATOD course with 183 days held in abeyance while 234
students completed the Tobacco Prevention student course with 702 days held in abeyance. The total
students impacted were 295 and served with 885 suspension days saved.
