COMMUNITY
To ensure continuity of services to meet the academic, social, emotional and mental health needs of students,
and to provide families with increased flexibility and varied options for obtaining evaluation services outside
of regular District school hours, weekend evaluation appointments were available to students. During the
Spring of 2021, school psychologists conducted eleven (11) weekend evaluation sessions at school campuses
across all regions of the District, where psychoeducational evaluations were completed for over 200 students.
Professional Development
The District, along with the community Mental Health First Aid Coalition, began training in Youth Mental
Health First Aid (YMHFA) three years before the course was mandated by SB 7026. With the District Mental
Health Allocation Plan, a substantial expansion of mental health awareness training was implemented for
Youth Mental Health First Aid and Child Mental Health First Aid. Over 20,000 District staff also completed the
Kognito Mental Health Awareness Module during FY20. For the FY21, the YMHFA course was updated (now
pertaining to children ages 5-18) and moved to a 6.5-hour online delivery model. The two-part online course
includes a 2-hour self-paced class and a 4.5-hour instructor-led class. Twenty-three percent (23%) of School
District employees have completed the YMHFA training. Total staff trained in YMHFA during FY21 was 1,118
in 93 separate classes.
