Chapter 5 – Communications and
Community Outreach
Executive Overview
Effective communications and community outreach among District stakeholders, including
students, parents, teachers, and administrators is key to achieving academic success. Online
and virtual technology presents a variety of options to stay connected. Our stakeholders use
digital media, virtual environments, and mobile devices on a 24/7 basis to learn, communicate,
and work. To support personalized learning IT understands that our stakeholders’ expectation is
to use technology to:
● Interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others
● Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences
● Develop cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with learners of other
cultures
● Contribute to project teams to produce original works or solve problems
School and Classroom Websites
Parents expect quick access to information about their child’s learning, classroom, and school.
The District will continue to provide website services to all schools and departments and to
every classroom teacher. The current system of classroom websites provides each school and
individual teachers the ability to post news items, maintain a calendar of events and
assignments, provide links to instructional resources, and post documents of interest to students
and parents. It also allows for push notifications to student and parent mobile devices; as well
as, customized reports.
During the life of this plan, all school, classroom, district, and department websites will be
migrated under one web content management system. That system will provide all functionality
currently available as well as new functionality including the ability for school, region, and/or
District leaders to push information to any or all websites simultaneously and the ability to
implement a standardized branding model and templates for web page design. This will assure
critical District content such as bell times, transportation information, code of conduct details
and food service information are consistent and up to date on all District online locations.
Parents should experience consistency between school websites and District websites for ease
of use and the ability to locate information quickly and with as few clicks as possible in a
mobile-friendly format.
District Mobile App
Some of our schools offer a native mobile app that students and parents can download to
remain up-to-date on school events and announcements. During the life of this plan, a District
mobile app will be available in the App Store for students, parents, employees, and community
members to download for free and then “follow” the District and all schools of their choice. The
app will be integrated with the web content management system including all District and school
websites to ensure messaging is consistent across all platforms and devices.
