Future Ready Learning Environment
School learning environments have traditionally demanded that the learner adapt to a single
curriculum delivery method, however, rapid technology advances are changing the way that
classrooms have operated for over a century. Additionally, with the advent of personalized
learning allowing learners to follow different paths in the same classroom, instructional
tools, environments and classroom designs need to be flexible and able to adapt to meet
those needs. A paradigm shift is underway where the student is now at the center of the
learning model as shown in the illustration below and learning environments must reflect
this change:

The “Use of Space and Time” is one of the seven core gears outlined in the Future Ready
Schools framework. This framework states, “Student-centric learning requires changes in
the way instructional time is used and the learning space is designed. Many schools are
shifting away from Carnegie units to competency-based learning. This type of system adapts
learning to meet the needs, pace, interests, and preferences of the learner.” Two of the
relevant elements that District must consider are:
1. Flexible Learning; Anytime, Anywhere
2. New Pedagogy, Schedules, and Learning Environment for Personalized Learning
The District is addressing the pedagogy and instructional needs related to personalize
learning within the Strategic Plan Initiative that is currently under development. The sections
