2021 Bounce Back to Services
In 2021, the focus was on a return to care accompanied with mental wellness. The overall spend rebounded
by 10.1% from the 2020 low caused by provider’s offices being closed or having limited access. COVID-19
claims still drove $15.6 million or about 10% of the claims. Wellness screenings were up, but still below 2019
levels. Emergency room usage also decreased back to 2019 levels with outpatient surgeries that had been
put off in 2020 up 24%. Behavioral Health claims increased by 9% over their high from 2020.
Preventive Visits and Screenings
The impact of members having preventive screenings for early detection is even more crucial since COVID-19.
The School District of Palm Beach County has developed a culture where their members are far ahead of the
norm year over year for these vital visits and screenings.
