School Food Service determined that there was a need to reduce trash generated by the operations of the equipment team. It was determined that a parts return program would provide a dual result; accountability and reduction of waste.
In order for us to maintain control on parts being purchased, a procedure was implemented that required the return of any parts removed from equipment and reconciled against the work order. Additionally, the parts returned were evaluated and recycled if deemed appropriate.
The result of the recycling effort was a 75% reduction in waste. We also realized an additional revenue stream of $10,000 with the recycling process.
