Research, develop a plan, and implement the Department of Health Supper Program in selected schools – 1 of 5 years
In the 2014-2015 school year, the School Food Service Department piloted an Afterschool Meals Program at four District schools; C.O. Taylor/Kirklane Elementary, Forest Park Elementary, Highland Elementary, and Hope-Centennial Elementary. The program, funded by the United States Department of Agriculture and administered by the Department of Health, Bureau of Child Care Food Programs, is designed to provide a nutritious meal to children in after school programs. It is available to schools in which at least 50% of the enrolled children are eligible for free or reduced-price meals and where regularly scheduled educational or enrichment activities are structured and supervised.
In order to properly implement the program, our department participated in a training that was given by the Department of Health and in turn, the information was shared with the pilot school managers through a Webinar on November 17, 2014. The attendees included Managers, Regina Horne, Erica Thomas, Roxanne Gullion, and Monica Narsiff and Field Specialists. All participants were encouraged to ask questions to become more comfortable with the new program.
