On behalf of Citibank and Horace Mann, Wellness Champions were awarded the Healthy School/Well Workplace sponsorship of $250 to support their programs and recognize their outstanding achievement and leadership in creating a healthy school environment. Prior to each of the five Wellness Promotion Task Force Meetings, Wellness Champions submitted applications for this exciting opportunity to apply for a wellness budget for their Wellness Champion Programs. The following Wellness Champions are making a great impact with the programs they have created and/or implemented.

Robyn Raye, Hope Centennial Elemenary
Created “Bust a Move into the Holidays,” a five-week program in which Zumba, Salsa, healthy beverages and snacks, and decreased stress activities gave staff a forum to interact with colleagues outside of the classroom and helped employees stay healthy throughout the holiday season. - Show More

Deborah Feinsinger, Allamanda Elementary
Implemented “Girl’s on the Run,” a program that creatively incorporated training for a 5K with lessons and encouragement for life skills. The afterschool program was successful at motivating students, teachers, and parents to participate in local fitness events in Palm Beach County. - default_title

Established a “Fitness Club” to get staff and students engaged in exercise through consistent aerobic, strength and stretching workouts. It also provided fitness testing to measure progress and weekly discussion topics of nutrition, daily routines, and overall health and wellness. - Show More

Robyn Raye, Hope-Centennial Elementary
Created “Inside Outside Upside Down,” a program inspired by the children’s book by Stan and Jan Berenstain. It helped staff members feel better on the inside and outside and turn their unhealthy choices upside down. This program bridged classroom incentives for student wellness to increase staff involvement in wellness activities on the school campus and increased wellness literacy in the classroom. - default_title
Isa Isaacs, West Gate Elementary
Implemented a “Biggest Loser” program to motivate staff to maintain a healthy weight and incorporate exercise into their daily lives. It also provided body analysis to measure progress, daily exercise activities, and weekly discussion topics to improve overall health and wellness. - Show More

Sherry Thomas from Forest Park Elementary, Beatrice Marrero from Highland Elementary and Courtney Kalinowski from Jupiter Elementary were Wellness Champions who are actively participating in the Wellness Champion programs and were randomly selected for the wellness sponsorship. Funding was to be used for a year-end wellness celebration at their school or a beginning of the school year wellness kick-off in August.
