Evaluate and further define our recognition program for School Food Service employees - ongoing
School Food Service established several new recognition awards this year including: The Juggler Award, Humanitarian Award, 100% Club Award, School Involvement Award and Rookie of the Year Award. We also, for the second year in a row gave Benchmark Awards in Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum categories. The following School Food Service Managers were recognized at the August 9, 2012 In-Service for accomplishments during the 2011-2012 school year.
  • default_titleMargaret Hughart – Cholee Lake Elementary
    Assisted a child that passed out on the serving line.
  • default_titleJennifer Beck – Lantana Middle
    Jennifer became aware of a student who was being bullied for his lunch money. She notified the school police and now continues to monitor those students involved in order to prevent future problems.
  • default_titleBeverly Roker – Wellington Landings Middle
    Beverly and one of her employees, Patty, were approached by a teacher wanting to do something nice for a student who was having adjustment issues. It was the student’s birthday and they decided to sing Happy Birthday to him (Patty, the teacher, Officer Bob, and Beverly). The student was very moved by the effort and displayed positive behavior at the school from that point on.

    Angela was made aware of a situation by her principal; a student was having a lot of issues both at school and at home. Angela decided to do something to make his winter holiday special. She purchased clothing and gave him a special card with heartfelt words, money and signed it. Angela also helped a mother who made it known she needed assistance with clothes and food for herself and her two daughters. Angela also signed a card with encouraging words.

  • Ginny Krukowski – Marsh Pointe Elementary Ginny worked with her Physical Education Teacher to participate in the Fuel Up To Play 60 Program. Ginny volunteered to get “Slimed” by those students who met their fitness and nutrition goals.
  • Mary Lynn Regan – Jerry Thomas ElementaryMary Lynn created OrganWise Guys presentations for her Kindergarten and 1st grade students. Mary Lynn worked with administration to have the daily menu broadcast over the school television network. As an additional accomplishment, she starred on the school's television network to educate students on Offer vs. Serve.
  • Jackie Bradbury – Barton ElementaryJackie had the Sheriff’s Department come in for breakfast to assist in serving the students. The Officers looked forward to greeting the students and having the students get to know them as people they can trust. It was a great opportunity for the officers to bond with the smallest members of their community.
  • Kristine Galganski – Pierce Hammock ElementaryKristine is very active in her school community. She joined the after school club and worked with a group of 20 students that helped with recycling. Kristine also volunteered to read a Dr. Seuss book to 1st grade students on Dr. Seuss Day.

Developed and acted with staff in a video to promote the next day’s menu.
Jason Innes – Manatee Elementary
Jason was a new manager this year who went above expectations to promote his program and get involved in the school. He participated in School Wellness, Swim Committee, Safety meetings, Fuel Up To Play 60, an evening Health Fair, and two OrganWise Guys events. He supports the school's Wellness Champion.
These managers received 100% on all of their annual reviews that were conducted by their Field Specialist: onsite review, both cash controls, National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and Safety and Sanitation reviews. The 15 managers recognized were:

Receiving 100% on these reviews shows the managers ability to train staff, organize paperwork, remain accountable, follow procedures and meet the guidelines set forth by the USDA for the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program and the After School Snack Program.
Three managers were recognized for pursuing and completing their higher education degrees.

Organized breakfast for Saturday morning tutoring. Worked with the Physical Education Teacher to secure a grant from Fuel up to Play 60.

This year we implemented a recognition award for the central office support staff. At the end of the 2011-2012 school year ballots were passed out to all School Food Service Managers at the last area meeting. Each manager was asked to select one support employee who they felt provided the best customer service during the year. The ballots were returned to the office and tallied. Below are the recipients of the Support Employees of the Year Award for the 2011-2012 school year.
