Evaluate MPLH, salaries, and supplements and communicate plans to managers - 1 of 1 year

The Meals Per Labor Hour (MPLH) calculations are reviewed by our SFS Field Specialists twice a year; once in the month following the start of each new school year and once in the month of February. The labor guidelines are based on participation and help our department staff kitchens appropriately to perform efficiently, remain solvent, and guard the bottom line. When it is determined that additional hours are needed to effectively run a kitchen, the SFS Manager will work with their Field Specialist to determine if it is more beneficial to hire an additional employee or to give an existing employee(s) additional hour(s). A tracking tool was created in our SharePoint site that tracks the MPLH for all sites and provides justification when additional hours are warranted.

In the 2012-2013 school year, through labor negotiations with the District, School Food Service recommended that additional supplements be given to the Food Service Managers who have responsibility for additional programs. On December 6, 2012, the Board approved the following supplements for our managers:

  • default_titleMeals Served Remotely on Daily Basis - $25.00 Monthly
  • default_titleAdditional Supplements are Provided to Managers who Prepare Meals for Charter Schools or Alternative Education Sites.
  • default_titleFood Service Managers Who Earn a Bachelor’s Degree or Associate Degree from an Accredited College or University will be Paid an Educational Supplement of $1,500 or $1,000 Respectively.

Also, as a result of Board approval, the SFS Managers received a $1,000.00 increase to their annual salary and a $200.00 one-time bonus for a satisfactory evaluation for the 2011-2012 school year. Additionally, SFS employees received a $.50 per hour increase and were able to retain their $.35 per hour merit pay supplement.
