Calculating Florida School Grades
Beginning with the 2014-15 school year, school grades calculation were revised to implement statutory changes made by the 2014 Legislature and incorporate the new Florida Standards Assessments (FSA). The 2014-15 school grades provided a baseline calculation and did not include learning gains.
The 2015-16 school grades model uses the new school grades model adopted by the 2014 Legislature and includes the new learning gains components for the first time.
FSA English Language Arts, Mathematics and EOC
The Florida Standards Assessment Test (FSA) is a criterion-referenced test that measures student achievement based on the Florida Standards in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics as well as End of Course exams in Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2. The FSA ELA score is a composite of reading and writing. FSA ELA (Grades 3-10) and Mathematics (Grades 3-8) were first administered in the spring of 2015.
FCAT Reading / Math / Science
The Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test® 2.0 (FCAT 2.0) is a criterion-referenced test that measures student achievement of the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards in reading, mathematics and science. FCAT 2.0 Reading (grades 3 – 10) and Mathematics (grades 3 – 8) were first administered in the spring of 2011, FCAT 2.0 Science (grades 5 and 8) was administered to students for the first time in the spring of 2012.
Retake Tests
The Grade 10 FCAT 2.0 Reading/FSA ELA Retake test and Algebra I FCAT 2.0/FSA Retake test serve as graduation tests for students seeking a standard diploma. The FCAT 2.0 Reading and FCAT 2.0 Algebra I EOC Retake tests assess student achievement on selected benchmarks as defined by the Next Generation Sunshine Standards (NGSSS). The FSA ELA and FSA Algebra I EOC Retake tests assess achievement on selected benchmarks as defined by the Florida Standards.
NGSSS End of Course Exams
The Florida EOC Assessments are part of Florida's Next Generation Strategic Plan for the purpose of increasing student achievement and improving college and career readiness. EOC assessments are computer-based, criterion-referenced assessments that measure the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards for specific courses.
Florida Alternate Assessment Test
All Florida students participate in the state’s assessment and accountability system. The Florida Alternate Assessment is designed for students whose participation in the general statewide assessment (FCAT, FCAT 2.0, and EOC) is not appropriate even with accommodations. The Florida Alternate Assessment measures student academic performance on the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards Access Points (NGSSS-AP) in Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science at three levels of complexity; participatory, supported, and independent.
Florida School Grades
School grades provide an easily understandable metric to measure the performance of a school. Parents and the general public can use the school grade and its associated components to understand how well each school is serving its students. The 2015-16 school grades model uses the new school grades model adopted for 2014-15 and includes the new learning gains components for the first time.
American College Test
The ACT college readiness assessment is a standardized test for high school achievement and college admissions in the United States. The ACT assessment measures high school students' general educational development and their capability to complete college-level work with the multiple choice tests covering four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science (and optionally Writing.) The main four tests are scored individually on a scale of 1–36, and a Composite score is provided which is the whole number average of the four scores.
SAT Reasoning Test
The SAT is a standardized test for most college admissions in the United States. The SAT is owned, published, and developed by the College Board, a nonprofit organization in the United States. It was formerly developed, published, and scored by the Educational Testing Service[1] which still administers the exam. The test is intended to assess a student's readiness for college. It was first introduced in 1926. Possible scores range from 600 to 2400, combining test results from three 800-point sections (Mathematics, Critical Reading, and Writing).
Advanced Placement Exam
Advanced Placement examinations are taken as the culmination of year-long Advanced Placement (AP) courses. All but one of the AP exams combine multiple-choice questions with a free-response section in either essay or problem-solving format. AP Studio Art, the sole exception, requires students to submit a portfolio for review. The AP Grades that are reported to students, high schools, colleges, and universities in July are on AP's five-point scale.

The Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE)
The Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) is an international diploma that students can earn via an advanced academic curriculum and assessment program written and administered by a non-profit department (CIE) of the University of Cambridge in England. for an explanation of the AICE level test grades.
